The Dualing VP's

Whew. Well done Governor Palin.

We all made it through the second only Vice Presidential debate spotlighting a women (the other being Geraldine Ferraro in 1984). And after watching tonight’s two candidates pipe away with a surprising amount of energy and lack of humor, I can say that Palin held her own. And she held it well, keeping true to her theme as a down-to-earth hockeymom with a big state and big executive experience behind her.

Personally I didn’t love the ‘gosh darnits’ and ‘joesixpack’ but hey, they were about the only light hearted words all night. She stood strong on taxes and energy, but they battled it over Iraq and Afghanistan.

Senator Biden is a smart man who has been in the middle of the political mess since being elected to the Senate in 1972. He impressed me with his view of the Vice President’s role, but overall he didn’t blow me away. Was the gender difference a barrier to his charisma and personality? All night we got a picture of the ‘real’ Palin, but only in a few moments where Biden paused for a second after talking about his story of losing his wife and raising his two boys by himself did we see his personality.

Well, the days continue to count down. Both candidates tonight are ready for a change. And yes, we all are.
